Minutes of Managers’ Meeting, Thursday, 3/21/13 at Puss N Boots
Managers in attendance: Bob
Johnson, Jim Mahoney, Bob Rodgers
Additionally: Paul Olear, Ray Giberson, Mike Zizzo, Harold Ritler and Bill
Russell
Minutes
1. Big League Academy—We discussed the possibilities of a winter league,
(Jan-March, 20 game schedule) in our newly chosen indoor facility, Big League
Academy in Newtown. A show of hands indicated that six of the nine in
attendance would favor that. We also discussed a two day tournament in the
middle of this schedule, binging in teams from a wider range. We discussed the
value of locking in a rate early with the management for whatever ways we would
use it.
2. Review of the Minutes handed out: We reconfirmed the 10:30 starting time, the
current schedule, and the costs for sponsors and registrants.
3. Draft and Team Balancing—We have 19 names of players who
expressed and interest at one time in playing this year. We looked at this list
and determined that there are 10-12 serious players who have been coming to
indoor workouts. (I sent an email to all the previous night, urging them to get
out to work out or they might find themselves not selected in the upcoming
draft on 4/11
A. We looked at a list of the 6
strongest players on each team and discussed the power ratings
B. It was determined that the Bucs
would get the first two picks in the draft, the Renegades would pick second and
Puss N Boots would pick third and then each team would get a pick until
finished.
C. Because the Renegades have
several players in question of returning, after the first three or four rounds,
we would fill up their team with mid-range to lower players so that all teams
have equal numbers on their rosters.
D. The Bucs would get to pick a
pitcher from the list of new players.
4. The next manager’s meeting will be on Tuesday, April 16th, a week
before the opener.
5. Draft-Thursday, April 11th— we will have rated the new players during the workouts prior to this and we will go through the selection process on this date.
Respectfully submitted, Jim Mahoney
