MANAGERS MEETING MINUTES 2020

Note: Due to the Covid-19 virus – Mercer Park was ordered closed before we could obtain play dates, fields and make payment.

The Managers meeting was held on March 10, 2020. At that time, we welcomed 29 INVESTMENTS LLC as our new eighth team to our League. The team will be managed by John Zappley and compete in our Division I. Marty’s Place will be moved to Division II.

Our initial intent was to play 23 or 24 games with no byes for the upcoming season.

Lennie’s group will be retained as our umpires for the second year of our agreed 2-year engagement at $ 37/game.

From our treasury, costs of softballs have increased significantly over the past year. Fortunately, we were able to obtain a price match of last year’s order from BSN sports. Pre-season costs of insurance, softballs, and Park fees, have almost totally exhausted our balance funds. Accordingly, we are forced to make a modest increase in the team dues this year.  TEAM DUES WILL BE $675 this year and normally due June 1st.

Winning teams are reminded to text, phone, or e-mail George Helmstetter with scores immediately following their games.

Protective screens were discussed and rejected by the managers.

The following measures were approved by managers:

*Revert back to the rule which allows the home team to score as many runs as the visitors in the first inning plus an additional 5 runs.

*FLIP/FLOP rule – (test run only this year) – If after 6 innings the visitor team is ahead by 12 or more runs, the teams will change positions for the following inning. Thus, the visiting team will again take the field and the home team will remain at bat for the last inning. If the home team does not score enough runs to catch the visitors, the game is over.  If they do then the visitors get to bat.

*In the event of a tied game at the end of 7 innings, extra innings will be played. The player that made the last out for each team will be placed at second base with the opportunity to score. A substitute runner is not allowed and that player must score himself. The game continues in this fashion until there is a winner.

                             SUBSEQUENT TO THE MEETING

                   ------------------------------------------------------------------

*Hooters requested reconsideration of protective screening. The managers again voted no.

*Breaking with tradition, it was suggested last place finishers of both Divisions draw their 1st round playoff opponents from a hat. It was hoped to add more competition for all teams. The vote was split. As we are probably looking at a shortened season, and ease of scheduling we can give it a try. it being understood, for this year only!

*Not knowing how much of a 2020 season we are going to have, the dues and due date are subject to adjustment. Insurance and softballs were already paid by the League. Further advices to follow when we can make a determination.

EVERYONE PLEASE STAY WELL AS WE AWAIT THE REOPENING OF MERCER PARK AND THE START OF OUR SEASON
