World Wide 12, Puss & Boots 9 (8 Innings) |
We can all say that it was a really good contest but the Jewelers delivered the goods. Led by the Joe Bianchini with 2 mighty blows and many other timely hits by teammates, they subdued the Wildcats of P&B 12 to 9. Both games in the series were entertaining but the best team ever in my 10 years playing here won out in the end. It took 8 innings to settle the contest and quite a few heroes rose to the top. It was great to see so many of our players this year at the game and helping out the umpires. There was one mistake by the umpires but if they were perfect, we could not afford them. However, the mistake was rectified correctly and the game continued. I wish all the games were as closely played and I believe your managers and league officers will be working on a plan to do just that. |
For the Wildcats, Billy Schwartz, Darryl Puzan, Bob Johnson all
had 3 hits also 2 hits from Craig Wright (3B), Kenny Reiss (HR), Alan
Rothenberg, Jerry Barsky, Nate Cohen and Al Avello. On the Jewelers side: Bill Kale had 4
hits while Bob Dutko, Howard Borochamber had 3. 2 hits from Ron Chiorello,
Joe Bianchini (HR), Bob Lorincz, John Hodnicki and Hoyt Ellis. Great defense
from the Jewelers and the Wildcats kept the game close in spite of all the
base hits. John Hodnicki, Joe Bianchini and Bob Lorincz had the most crucial
hits at the right times to carry the day for the playoff champions World Wide
Creations. |

The
Buccaneers limped into Mercer County Park with only 13 players, several of
whom were favoring muscle pulls before the game, three of whom could have
used crutches after the game. The players in blue and gold were still
eager to take on the very formidable World Wide Creation team who had only
lost once in 22 games. So the hopes were high for the Bucs that they could
pull off the upset by playing perfect ball but those dreams were dashed as
WWC opened with four quick runs in the first inning. That proved to be all
that they would need because of the very fine leather they flashed in the
field robbing the Bucs of several sure hits. The Bucs had a meager 8 hits on the
day in 25 plate appearances. Franny Schweiss led the way with 2 hits. Tom
Kegelman, Ray Giberson, Jerry Fishman, Jim Mahoney, Buddy Bond, Chuck

after play flawlessly, permitting WWC just 2 hits over that span. In the sixth, however, the Bucs booted
a double play ball and threw away a second one, opening the gates for a 5 run
inning. WWC tacked on an
insurance run in the top of the seventh. The Bucs had 12 hits, led by Ray

Victory was once again in
reaching distance at Mercer County Park for the Buccaneers, trailing by one
little run, 6-5 as they took the field in the bottom of the seventh inning.
But World Wide showed their true colors and they tacked on four more runs in
the bottom of the inning, too much for the Bucs to catch, going out 1-2-3,
just as they had done in the 6th. |
The Bucs had opened the first
inning with two quick runs as Tom Kegelman singled, Bob Vannozzi walked, and
John Curran (2 hits) singled to load the bases. Jim Mahoney drove a liner
into right center to bring home the two runs. World Wide came right
back with five runs in their half of the first. DWM put up another run in the
second as Lou DePalma reached base, Buddy Bond singled and, Chuck
Kascinski knocked one in with a solid line drive to right. The Bucs scored
two more runs in the fifth as Chuck Kascinski got his second hit, followed by
a hit by Ray Giberson and the second hits of the game for Tom Kegelman and
Bob Vannozzi who also made several plays in the field to take away sure hits.
Ray Giberson made some very fine plays as well in right

Victory was tantalizingly palpable, dancing in the heads of the
Bucs players as they took the field in the top of the seventh, leading Puss N
Boots, 4-2. It had been a very tight game to that point at the Edgewood Pool
Field with stellar plays in the field by both teams. Bob Vannozzi made three
fantastic plays to take away sure line drive hits. Steve Belenko made a few
others, as did Tom Kegelman in left field. However, with the rain coming down
steadily in the top of the seventh, Puss N Boots strapped on their hitting
boots and pounded out 6 runs to take a commanding 8-4 lead, and the Bucs
could only muster one run in their half to fall short by three runs. |
The Bucs had opened the first inning with a quick run and picked
up two more in the fourth on a two run homer by Steve Belenko who had also
doubled in the first and scored that run. Bob Vannozzi had a triple and a
double. The following players also had two hits: Mike Zizzo, Ralph Rogers,

five runs. Both teams traded three run innings in the fifth and the Lawyers
tacked on another run in the 6th. The Bucs tallied two runs in the seventh, with hits
from Mike Zizzo, Tom Kegelman, Ray Giberson (3rd) and Steve Belenko (2nd), and had runners on first and second when Chris
Fessey’s blast was snared by Pete Keelan in deep left field and the

World Wide Creations 15, Doylestown 9 |
The Doylestown Wealth Management
Buccaneers, with their 1-5 record, hosted the very formidable World Wide
Creations team, with their ominous 6-0 record, on a steamy May morning at Von
Hoffman Field. The Bucs entered the game with some of their big players on
the shelf: Bob Vannozzi, Warren Fuchs, John Curran, Buddy Bond, and mgr. Jim
Mahoney. Few gave them a chance in this contest. |
After WWC scored four runs in
the first two innings, things looked bleak for the Bucs, scoring only one run
in three innings. Trailing 6-1 in the fourth inning, the Bucs stormed back
with a five spot to close the score after four to 8-6. After trading scoreless
at bats in the 5th inning, WWC put up two runs in the 6th but the Bucs
again came back with four runs to close the gap to 10-9. However, the wheels
fell off the Bucs bus when WWC scored five in the 7th and the
game ended with the Bucs losing, 15-9. |
Chris Fessey filled in
beautifully at short and had three solid hits. Mike Zizzo got his debut at 3rd and
fielded superbly. Steve Belenko, Carl Wiegand, Bobby Doernberg, and Jerry
Fishman each had two hits and Tom Kegelman, Ray Giberson, Franny Schweiss,
and Chuck Kascinski chipped in with a hit a piece. |
Worldwide Creations put out 21
hits in their victory over the Doylestown Buccaneers with Ron Chiorello
having 4 hits, Bob Gotwald with 3 and 6 others with 2 hits including WP
Hoyt Ellis. |
