MINUTES OF M.E.T.S.S BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING of March 14, 2018

ATTENDANCE:  All teams were represented except Yogi's Boys.

TREASURER'S REPORT:  David Greenberg presented a detailed report of our financial status and is prepared to accept team League fees.  MAKE ALL CHECKS OUT TO DAVID GREENBERG--M.E.T.S.S.  Funds are needed to pay for balls, score-books, municipal insurance, and NJSSA player dues.

EAST ORANGE:  Harry Anderson, our player representative from East Orange, explained the results of the various meetings he had with the East Orange Recreation Officials.  They are beginning a publicity campaign to recruit players for the Slocum Division and to form teams for the 2019 season.  Harry will play for new Slocum expansion team, the Legends, and will keep us posted on the recruitment progress.

SCHEDULE:   Frank Shapiro gave a detailed explanation of the proposed 2018 game schedule.  Each Division A Division team will play each other three times and will play each B Division teams once for a total of fifteen weeks.  Each B Division team will play the A Division teams once and complete their schedule with the remaining B Division teams for a total of fifteen weeks.  The Slocum Division team will play each other three times for a total of fifteen weeks.  Week 16 and 17 will be used for make-up games based on the standings.  Frank continued to explain the availability of two new fields at Loantaka Park in Morris Township.  The final page of the schedule included a schedule of games by field location.  Frank explained the complexity of schedule based on the number of teams in each division and the field availability.  THE LEAGUE THANKS FRANK FOR HIS DILIGENT AND THOUGHTFUL WORK IN PREPARING THIS SCHEDULE.   A motion was made Sandy (Legends) and seconded by Joe (Salty Dogs) to approve this schedule.  Motion passed 16-1.

RULES AND BYLAWS:  Mike Michalisin and Bill Perlman presented the rule changes for the 2018 season.  Two important changes were proposed--Game time and pitcher masks.  All games will start at 10 a.m. and all pitchers are required to wear protective masks while pitching batting practice and during games.  All rules were previously distributed via e-mail attachment.  Motion was made by David (Old Diehards) and seconded by Sandy (Legends) to approve all rule and by law changes.  Motion passed 17-0.

ROSTERS:  Al Cheli inquired how many teams need players for the 2018 season?  As a result, two teams in A-B Division and two teams in the Slocum Division need players, especially, the expansion team, Legends.  SPECIAL NOTE: Since the meeting, Al an I have become annoyed by some managers who are recruiting players and not notifying us.  Please do not add payers without checking with us first because we must help those teams who need players and attempt to achieve some parity within the League.  We need your cooperation in this process.  Al is responsible for the A and B Divisions and I am responsible for the Slocum  Division. If there is a problem with this call us.  All tentative rosters are due March 31st to the Commissioner.  Please send them via e-mail so they can be forwarded to the State.
