MINUTES OF BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING

December 27, 2018

The following are the official minutes of the M.E.T.S.S. Board of Directors meeting held on Wednesday December 19, 2008.

ATTENDANCE:  All league teams were represented and all Board of Directors members were present.

GUESTS:  Erin Carr, a sales representative form the Sussex Miners, the minor League baseball from Sussex County, presented a historical review of the team and announced the Miners were the Champions of the Cam-Am League for the 2018 season.  She mentioned several projects that our League and the Miners can collaboratively plan that will benefit both organizations.  Further meetings will be planned to discuss various activities.

NJSSA NEWS:  Tony Ciavatta, President of the N.J.S.S.A., reported that all State Tournaments are in the process of being planned for the 2019 season.  Further details will be available as soon as they are finalized.

FINANCIAL REPORT:  David Greenberg presented a detailed final financial report for 2018 season and explained the proposed budget for the 2019 season.  David recommended we maintain the team dues for the 2019 season at $600.00 per team.

STATUS OF TEAMS:  Al Cheli conducted a team survey to determine the need of players for each team.  The following teams need at least two players each: the Amigos, the Thunder, and possibly, the Yogi's Boys.  Apparently, the remaining teams are satisfied with the numbers of players they have on their rosters.

LEAGUE SCHEDULING:  Frank Shapiro, Chairman of the Scheduling Committee proposed we start the season April 23, 2019 and conclude August 13, 2019 in an attempt to avoid poor weather conditions that usually occur during the first two weeks in April.  This recommendation was unanimously APPROVED.  The structure of each division was also discussed to expedite the scheduling process. Two options were discussed. The first option was, four teams in the A Division, six teams in B Division, and six teams in the Slocum Division (last season's structure). The other was five teams in the A Division, five teams in the B Division, and six teams in the Slocum Division.  A motion was made by Tom Rutkowski and seconded by Ben Colaneri to structure the League in the 5-5-6 format for scheduling purposes.  This format was unanimously APPROVED.

TYPES OF SOFTBALLS:  The issue of using the SB-12 vs the TATTOO BALL was discussed.  Frank presented a detailed explanation of the pros and cons of each ball based on various research sources.  After discussion, a motion was made and a vote was taken.  Nine represented teams voted for the use of the TATTOO ball, six represented teams voted for the use of the SB-12, and one abstained. AS A RESULT, THE TATTOO BALL WILL BE USED DURING THE 2019 SEASON!

PUBLICITY:  David Greenberg and the publicity committee will begin advertising for new players on the web-site, in face-book, and in newspapers.  We already have 3 new players who want to play in the 2019 season and Al Cheli will assign them to teams that are in need.  A copy of publicity fliers will be e-mailed to all managers so they can posted in conspicuous places.

TEAM FROM SUSSEX COUNTY:  There is a possibility a team from Sussex County may be formed to compete in our League.  ( A meeting will be held on February 27, 2019 with the Wantage Twp. Parks and Recreation Committee at 7:00 p.m to discuss details.)

NEXT MEETING:  WEDNESDAY FEBRUARY 13TH 9:00AM AT THE RANDOLPH DINER

Respectfully,

Gene Stracco

Commissioner
