UCSSL 2010 60’S PLAYOFF RESULTS
KILKENNY HOUSE 9, TLC 6
In a well played
final series opener, first place Kilkenny House prevailed by a 9-6 score. Ron Kulik, Don Montefusco, John McLaughlin
and John Wieczerak provided the offense as well as solid defensive play in the
outfield for Kilkenny. Bob Lorincz, Neil
Granstrand and Pete Osborn each had 2 hits and Oscar Harrison had 3 RBIs for
TLC.
TLC 18, KILKENNY HOUSE 7
Neil Granstrand’s first inning grand slam propelled TLC to an
early 6-0 lead and the TLC bats remained hot all game in recording 30
hits. Bob Lorincz, Pete Osborn and Wayne
Michaels (4 RBIs) each went 4 for 4, while Rich Polonitza,
Ron Swanson and Rich Grossberg contributed 3 hits each. Backed by a solid defense that was able to
squelch 3 potential rallies, Tom Colandro pitched a strong game for the
winners.
TLC 8, KILKENNY HOUSE 2
Having played each
other 10 times already this season, 4 of those during the past 2 weeks, there
were no surprises when Kilkenny House and TLC met on September 1 to decide which team would be this year’s 60+ Division Playoff champion. Perhaps it was the knowledge of the opposing batters tendencies, or maybe it was the intensity of battling for a league playoff title, but both teams played stellar defense in this final game of the 2010 UCSSL season. SS Ron Ivory, 3B Tom O’Connor and LCF Don Montefusco each made outstanding plays for Kilkenny, while LF Rich Traub and SS Oscar Harrison each made several sparkling defensive plays for TLC to support the gritty pitching performance of Tom Colandro. Pressed into service late in the year, Colandro was the winning pitcher in both TLC playoff victories.
TLC took the early
lead in the final game and stifled each Kilkenny attempt to rally. Bobby Lorincz had 3 hits, and 2 clutch hits
each by Ray Meigs and Rich Grossberg keyed the balanced TLC attack. Kilkenny’s high powered offense, which had scored at least 10 runs in all but two of their previous 24 league games this year, was held below 10 runs in each of the 3 games of the league finals.
Congratulations to TLC in winning the A Division playoff series 2 games to 1.
