Games for Week of August 1, 2021
Linwood Tap House 13 vs Cranford VFW 4 Regular Season Game
This game was close through 4 innings, Linwood holding a 6 to 2 lead thanks to excellent defensive play by Cranford.  Cranford's offense struggled all night to get runs leaving a total of 13 runners on base.  For VFW: Gary Schaller went 3 for 4 scoring a run, Vic Trindade went 2 for 3 scoring Cranford's final run.  Bill Early and Gerard McDermott went 2 for 4 with Gerard scoring once while Kevin Carroll, Dave Rothenberg, and George Merlo had one RBI apiece.
DeBellis Associates 23, NJ Gov’t Services 16
For NJ Gov’t: At the plate Steve Falco, James Massarelli, and Keith McDede had 4 hits each. Joe Attanasi {HR), Anthony Abbaleo, Bill Moore, and Doc Henley Black each blasted 3 hits.  Joe Brown and Tom Connolly added 2 hits apiece. DeBellis Associates leads the best of 3 series 1-0
NJ Gov't Services 7, DeBellis Associates 5  
For NJ Gov’t: Solid pitching by Neil Koch and solid defense which included a super catch in the outfield by Keith McDede to stop a late inning rally by DeBellis.  At the plate,  Steve Falco had 3 hits, Keith McDede, Joe Attanasi, Bill Moore, Doc Henley Black & Neil Koch added 2 hits each.   The best of 3 series tied at 1 game each.
Liberty Lighting Group 21 vs Cranford VFW 6
For Cranford, Gerard McDermott went 3 for 3 with a RBI.  Kevin Carroll went 2 for 3 scoring once and driving in a run.  Others contributing to the cause were Charlie Wischusen (2 for 3 with a RBI), and Vic Trindade (1 for 2 with a run and an RBI).  Cranford opened up the scoring in the first with 4 runs but had trouble the rest of the way stringing together hits.  Liberty Lighting Group leads the series 1-0
Liberty Lighting Group 23 vs Cranford VFW 8
Cranford's offense was better in game 2.  They scored runs in all but one inning.  Their most productive inning was the fifth scoring 3 runs after two outs on hits by Vic Trindade (1 for 3 with a run and a RBI), Ken Murray (3 for 3 with 3 runs and a RBI), and George Merlo (3 for 3 with 2 RBI).  Gerard McDermott, who had a perfect night at the plate going 3 for 3 scoring once and driving in a run.

Pat Nigro, Don Miller, and John Carced all went 6 for 6. Lou Ballestere was 6 for 7 as Mike Backus had 5 hits in 6 trips.  Liberty Lighting Group wins the series 2-0. 
 
Games for Week of August 8, 2021
 
NJ Governmental Services 12, DeBellis Associates 8
Down 8 to 2 after 3 innings the Govt. bats awakened to score 10 runs.  Solid pitching by Keith McDede and good defensive play silenced the DeBellis bats the rest of the way.  Mike Kelly (HR), Doc Henley Black, Bill Moore and Richie Krov had three hits each.  Keith McDede, Anthony Abbaleo and Joe Brown contributed two hits each.  On defense Joe Attanasi's two outstanding catches in left field and Dave Goodman's game ending snag of a hard-hit liner up the middle secured the victory.
NJ Governmental Services wins the Series 2-1 to move on to the B Division semifinals. 
Awnings Galore 17, Yogi's Boys 15
Yogi's Boys took advantage of sun-drenched Memorial 2 field scoring 11 runs through their first 5 frames, taking an 11-5 lead over Awnings Galore.  But Awnings scored 12 runs in the bottom half of the 5th to take the lead 17-11. Yogi's chipped away, scoring 4 more through their last 2 innings, but came up shy of catching up when a game ending double play in the 7th ended their comeback effort.  The Shadesters offense was led by a 3-3 (2B) performance by Paul Newton and 2 hits apiece by Danny Mendoza (2B), Frank Green (2B), Rich Polonitza, Rick Demsey, Angie Melillo (2B), Bobby Lorincz and Johnnie Jordan (2B), and a John Campanella homerun. Awnings Galore leads the series 1-0.
Renda Roads 22, Liberty Lighting Group 6
Leading the offense for Renda were Anthony Santorelli, Bill D'Amico, Don Fischer, Tom Straniero, Gary Pence and Sal Martino, all with 3 hits. Santorelli added a homerun.  Gary Pence was the winning pitcher. 
Renda Roads leads the series 1-0.
Linwood II 13, Linwood TapHouse #2 10
Linwood II edged out Linwood TapHouse 13-10 behind 3 for 3 performances from Al Genova (2B, 3B) and Bill Buteau’s two homeruns.  Pat Mooney, Bill Daniel and Gene Antonucci each added 2 hits.  Shortstop Bob Glassman's defensive plays helped secure the win.  Linwood Leads the series 1-0.
Kenilworth VFW 17, NJ Governmental Services 5
Holding onto an 8-4 lead through 4 innings, VFW broke it open with 3 in the 5th and 6 in the 6th.  Leading the way with 3 hits apiece were Ron Kulik (3R, 2RBI), Bob D'Meo (3B,3R,3RBI), Bill Vanderstreet (3B, 5RBI) and Don Montefusco (2RBI).  George Brokaw held Govt. in check with a very good pitching performance, giving up one run over last 4 innings.  Steve Falco, Keith McDede and Anthony Abbaleo had two hits each for NJ Govt. Services.  Kenilworth VFW leads the Series 1-0.
Renda Roads 16, Liberty Lighting Group 4
Renda's offense was led by Bill D'Amico, Gary Pence, Felix Velez who were all 3-3, and Don Fischer, Joe Massimino, Dan DiFedele, Steve Barba and Sal Martino who were all 2-2.  Defensive standouts were Joe DiFabio and John Mazur.  Gary Pence was the winning pitcher.  LLG’s Mike Backus blasted a HR. Rick Regenthal and Jeff Maglietta each chipped in with triples in their effort to continue the season.  Renda Roads wins the series 2-0 to move on to the A Division final. 
Awnings Galore 23, Yogi’s Boys 10 
Yogi's Boys held tight and put up a good fight for the first half of the game until Awnings Galore propelled ahead with two 6 run frames late in the game to solidify a 23-10 victory.  The Shadesters' 31 hit effort was aided by 4-4 performances by Paul Newton and Gary Cutler (2B), and 3 hit contributions by Danny Mendoza (2B), Frank Green, Rich Polonitza (2B), Rick Demsey and Bobby Lorincz.  Tommy Pasko had 3 hits along with a 3-run homerun to add to his good pitching performance.  Awnings Galore wins the Series 2-0 to advance to the B Division finals.
 
Games for Week of August 15, 2021
 
NJ Gov't Services 3, Kenilworth VFW 19
Jose Santana led a balanced Kenilworth attack with 3 hits and 4 RBIs.  Also contributing with 3 hits apiece were Ron Kulik, John Saint James, Jose Jimenez and George Brokaw who also had another fine pitching performance.  At the plate for NJ Gov't, Joe Attanasi had two hits including a home run, Steve Falco had two hits and James Massarelli had three hits.  Kenilworth VFW wins the series 2-0 and advances to the B Division Finals.
Renda Roads 4, Linwood II 3
Leading the Renda offense was Rick Wilson who tied the game with a clutch single in the bottom of the 6th.  Felix Velez had the game winning sac fly in the bottom of the 7th.  Don Fischer, Dan DiFedele, Tim Walsh and Steve Barba each had 2 hits.  Dennis Watson and Rick Wilson were perfect at the plate. Renda's defense was solid with several clutch plays.  Sal Martino was the winning pitcher.    
Renda Roads 11, Linwood II 6
Renda Roads defeated Linwood II, 11-6, to sweep the 2-game series and become repeat Champions of the Union County 60's A Division.  Leading the offense were Sal Martino, Don Fischer, Anthony Santorelli, Tom Baldowski, Bernie Maguire, Tom Straniero, Gary Pence, Sal Martino and Dennis Watson with 2 hits each.  Sal Martino was the winning pitcher and held Linwood II to 9 runs in the two game championship series.  Renda Roads wins the series 2-0 to become A Division Playoff Champions. 
Awnings Galore 15, Kenilworth VFW 11
After a 5 run first inning, Awnings Galore jumped out to a 9-3 lead in the second inning and held on to defeat VFW 15-11.  The Veterans added 6 late inning runs but came up short after the Shadesters scored 4 in the 6th to solidify the win.  For Awnings, Gary Cuttler led the way with a 4-4 hitting performance and great shortstop plays, along with two triples by Rich Traub.  Frank Green (2B), John Campanella (2B), Ozzie Osborn,Bobby Lorincz and Carmine Priore added two hits apiece.  Contributing for Kenilworth VFW were Don Montefusco with 3 for 3 (2RBI), Chris Kaminski 2 for 2 (HR, 4RBI) and Ron Kulik, Al Feigenbaum, Bill Vanderstreet, John Saint James and Jose Santana with 2 hits apiece.  Awnings Galore leads the B Division Finals 1-0.
         
Games for Week of August 22, 2021
 
Kenilworth VFW 14 Awnings Galore 10
In another tightly contested game between the two teams, Kenilworth VFW defeated Awnings Galore 14-10.  Awnings took an 8-6 lead in the 3rd inning but VFW outscored them 8-2 over last 4 innings.  Awnings Galore's quest for a repeat of the 60+ B Division Playoff championship was stalled by Kenilworth VFW's good hitting offense.  Leading the way for VFW were Ron Kulik and Rich Kovach with 3 hits each.  Awnings was led by Danny Mendoza's 2 towering homeruns over Tremley's left field fence (5 RBIs) and Rich Traub going 3 for 3 with a long triple.  Rick Demsey went 3-3 along with 2 hits apiece by Bruce Crawford (2B) and Carmine Priore. 
Kenilworth VFW 12, Awnings Galore 3
The game began solemn remembrance at home plate, with all members of both team’s present, of our friend Gary Wiese, 27-year UCSSL veteran player who managed the VFW team for the first 12 years of its existence.  After dropping the series Playoff opener, Kenilworth VFW came back to win the next 2 games and defeat a tough opponent in Awnings Galore.  Scoreless for 3 innings, VFW plated 12 runs in next 3 innings.  Leading the way were Ron Kulik (3 for 3, 3RBI) and 2 hits apiece from Carey Durrett (2RBI and a defensive gem), Chris Kaminski, Al Feigenbaum (2 RBI), Jose Jimenez and George Brokaw who pitched another fine game, holding Awnings to only 8 hits.  Rich Kovach added 2 huge RBIs as did Bill Vanderstreet.  Don Montefusco also had an outstanding catch in left field and Jose Santana added some sparkling plays at 3rd base.  Kenilworth VFW wins B Division Finals.
2021 Playoffs Completed
