Swan Hotel 13, Linwood II 3 |
In the opening game of this best of three 60s A Division
semifinal series, Swan Hotel defeated Linwood II at Linden Memorial Park by a
score of 13-3. Doug Fischer took the mound for the Swannies and was
masterful, holding Linwood scoreless through the first five innings. He also
helped the cause on offense going 2 for 2 on the night. Other hitting stars
who were perfect at the plate for Swan were Marty Marks (2 for 2, HR, 4
RBIs), John Garced (2 for 2, 2 RBIs), and Tom Ulichny (2 for 2, 2 RBIs) |
Deegan 18,
Linwood Boys 10 |
Deegan Roofing came from behind twice to overtake the Linwood
Boys 18-10. It was a back and forth game and was tied 10-10 through 4th
inning. In the 5th inning Deegan pulled ahead for good. For the Roofers,
Rob Hawk and Don Miller had four hits each. Lou Balasteros added three hits
including a two-run triple. Sal Martino and John Rachko also had three hits
each. For the Linwood Boys, Joe Ciampi, Jim Donahue, Vance
Barfield, Joe Sarica and Anthony Joe all had two hits. Deegan Roofing leads
this best of 3 A Division semifinal playoff series 1-0. |

Two Hits each by Ed Quinn, Bill Early, Scott Graham, Anthony
Miccio, Ken Murra and Dave Rothenberg for Angry Joe’s. Yogi’s Boys leads this
best of three B Division quarterfinal series 1-0 |
Kenilworth VFW
16, AJ Jersey 10 |
Kenilworth VFW defeated AJ Jersey Monday night to capture game
one of its first-round best of three game series by a score of 16-10.
Kenilworth VFW jumped out to a 16-5 lead after 4 innings only to see AJ
Jersey climb back into the game with a 5 run fifth inning, cutting the lead
to 16-10. But that's how it ended as both teams held each other
scoreless the rest of the way. Kenilworth VFW was led by Bob D'Meo with
4 hits and 3 runs scored. Daniel Mendoza, Greg Hartnet, and Greg Thomas (who
had a long triple as well) chipped in with 3 hits apiece. |

Services 14, DeBellis Associates 3 |
In their 1st round playoff game NJGS defeated DeBellis 14-3
sparked by 9 doubles. Gary Epstein and Rich Conklin added in a home run
each. Joe Hrubash, Rich Conklin and Geno Raisley had 3 hits
apiece. Tomas Cruz, Bill Moore, Frank Verducci, Gary Epstein, and James
Massarelli added 2 hits each. Winning pitcher Carl Herman backed by
solid defense brought home the victory. |

In the second game of this 60s A Division semifinal series, it
was once again Swan Hotel holding their opponents scoreless through the first
five innings behind the pitching of Jimmy Jimenez. The Swannies went on to
win 19-5 and capture the series 2-0. Mark Roll and Marty Bernstein were both
3 for 3 on the night for Swan, and Tom Ulichny recorded and inside the park
home run. |
Deegan 16,
Linwood Boys 6 |
John Rachko pitched a fantastic game and Deegan flashed the
leather throughout to win over the Linwood boys 16-6. Rob Hawk,
Art Paradise, Sal Martino and John Rachko all had three hits each for the
Roofers. Jeff Villani and Anthony Joe both homered
for the Linwood Boys. Deegan Roofing captures this best of three A Division
semifinal series 2-0. |
AJ Jersey 15,
Kenilworth VFW 1 |
In the second game of this first round division series between
Kenilworth VFW and AJ Jersey, AJ jumped out to a 7-1 lead after three
innings and never looked back as they coasted to a 15-1 victory over
Kenilworth VFW, evening the best of three series at one game apiece.
Keith Durrett led Kenilworth VFW with 2 hits. |

NJGS scored 6 runs in the 6th inning to break open a close 6-3
game. At the plate the G-men were led by Joe Attanasi (HR), Keith McDede, and
Tomas Cruz with 3 hits each. Joe Hrubash, Rich Conklin, Anthony Abbaleo,
James Massarelli, Dante Brando, Frank Verducci, and Geno Raisley added 2 hits
each. Winning pitcher Carl Herman held the DeBellis bats in check. Gary
Epstein playing up the middle led the solid infield G-men defense. NJGS
captures this opening round best of three playoff series 2-0 |

There was great team defense and great pitching by Anthony
Miccio to shut out Yogi's Boys. Angry Joe's awesome offense was led by
Carmine Priore with 2 hits including a bases clearing triple. Kevin Carroll
had a double and triple and Ed Quinn, Bill Early, Carlos Gonzalez, Anthony
Miccio, Ken Murray, Jerry Gaeta and Gerard McDermott all had 2 hits |

Deegan Roofing 4 |
In the opening game, of this best of three 60s “A” Division
Championship Final, Deegan Roofing held a 4-1 lead heading into the fifth
inning when the Swan bats finally came to life. The Swannies scored
nine runs over the next two innings while pitcher Doug Fischer blanked the
Deegan offense in the final three frames to capture the 10-4 victory. Hitting
stars for the Swannies were Tom Ulichny and Marty Marks who were both 3 for 3
on the night. Tom Baldowski and Fischer added two hits each in the win. For
the Roofers, John Rachko pitched an excellent game and Felix Velez had 3
hits. |
Kenilworth VFW
12, AJ Jersey 10 |
Kenilworth VFW bounced back from a crushing defeat in Game 2 to
take the rubber game of this tough 1st round series, defeating AJ Jersey by a
score of 12-10. The game was tight throughout and the Veterans went into the
final inning with a comfortable 12-7 lead. AJ Jersey would not go down
easily, scoring 3 runs and having the tying runs on base before the final out
was made. The Vets were led by Bob D'Meo, Bill McCormack, and Greg
Hartnett with 3 hits apiece. Greg Thomas also had a 3 run homer for VFW. |

Yogi’s Boys wins this quarterfinal best of three series 2-1 and
moves on to the semifinals. |
Deegan Roofing
17, Swan Hotel 13 |
Deegan Roofing evened the 60s "A" Division best of
three Finals 1-1 by holding off a furious 7th inning 2-out comeback attempt by Swan to come out on
top 17-13. John Rachko pitched an excellent game for Deegan,
while the offense was led by Tom Donnelly with four hits. In addition,
Chris Jones, Rob Hawk and Felix Velez had three hits each for the
Roofers. Nick Russo led the Swannie bats with a perfect 4 for 4
night. Doug Fischer was 3 for 3 and Marty Marks was 2 for 2.

Awnings Galore 8 |
In the 1st game of the B division best of three semifinal
series, Yogis Boys jumped out to a 6-1 lead but the Awnings bats tied it up
at 6-6 after 3 innings. With the score tied 8-8 after 5 innings, the Boys
added 1 more run in the last two frames to capture the win. For
the Shadesters, Jerry Isolda went 3-3 while Billy Hillyer contributed two
hits, with a triple and double. Rich Traub had 2 hits including a double, as
did Rick Demsey. John Campanella added a triple. |

Services 14, Kenilworth VFW 8 |
NJ Government Services defeated Kenilworth VFW by a score of
14-8 in the opening game of this best of three semifinal series. In a tightly
played contest, The G-Men pulled away in the later innings to secure the
victory. Carl Herman pitched a great game for NJGS and Frank
Verducci's great catches in left field led a solid outfield defense. At the
plate Joe Attanasi (HR) and John Llano had 4 hits each. Rich Conklin, Carl
Herman (HR) and Dante Brando had 3 hits apiece. Steve Falco, Joe Hrubash and
Bill Moore contributed 2 hits each. Anthony Aballeo's lead-off single in the
6th inning started the 5 run rally, Jame Massarelli's lead off double in the
7th started the 4-run rally which sealed the Gmen victory. The Veterans were
led by Bob D'Meo, Greg Hartnett, Jose Santana, and Greg Thomas, each with 2
hits. Keith Durrett chipped in with a 2-run homer. |

Swan Hotel 7,
Deegan Roofing 4 |
In the third and final game of the UCSSL best of three 60s A
Division championship series, Swan Hotel held on to capture their third
consecutive championship by a score of 7-4 over Deegan Roofing. The final
game of this highly competitive final series turned on pitching and
defense. Swan's Doug Fischer and Deegan's John Ratchko held the bats
fairly quiet throughout the night. The Swannie double play combination
of Marty Bernstein to John Mazur to Tom Ulichny turned a key double play late
in the game to quell a Roofer rally. Left center fielder Steve Barba made a
highlight reel diving catch to open the top of the 7th inning to keep Deegan from getting anything started.
The hitting star for Swan was the red-hot Tom Ulichny who was once again
perfect at the plate (3 for 3). Brian Latham, Marty Marks, and Mark Roll
added two hits each for the winning effort. For Deegan John Rachko
pitched a fantastic game but the Roofers didn't stir up enough offense
to win. Don Miller, Lou Balastriere and Johnny Rachko all
had two hits. |
Yogi’s Boys 6,
Awnings Galore 5 |
In the 2nd game of the semi-final round of the B-Division 60's
playoff, Yogis Boys jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the 1st inning and held
the lead through 6 innings. For the Shadesters, Tom Pasko's stellar pitching
held the Boys scoreless in innings 2 through 6. In the top of the
7th,
Awnings scored 2 to move ahead 5-4. But the Boys responded with
two of their own in their bottom half of the 7th for a walk off win
6-5. It all started with Jerry Riepe’s double, followed by a Steve
Ferro single. With one out, Rich Pitonzo, crushed his 2nd double of
the day to score 2 runs for the dramatic win. Yogis moves on to
the final championship series as the Cinderella story
continues. For the Shadesters, Rich Traub again led the offense
with two hits and a triple. Billy Hillyer also tripled and went
3-3. |
Kenilworth VFW
15, NJ Government Services 8 |
In a tightly contested battle, Kenilworth VFW held off NJ
Government Services by a final score of 15-8, evening this semifinal round
best of three series at one game apiece. Kenilworth broke a 4-4 tie in the
third inning with six runs and never looked back. Kenilworth was led by Greg
Hartnett and Juan Santana, each with 3 hits. At the plate for the
Gmen, Joe Hrubash and Geno Raisley had three hits each. Joe
Attanasi, John Llano, Carl Herman, and Dante Brando had 2 hits apiece. |

Services 22, Kenilworth VFW 5 |
NJGS bounced back from their second game loss to Kenilworth VFW
to win the third game of this best of three 60s B Division semifinal series
by a score of 22-5. Winning pitcher Carl Herman limited the VFW offense with
the help of a strong left side defense led by Geno Raisley and Tomas Cruz in
the infield, and Joe Attanasi and Frank Verducci in the outfield.
At the plate Steve Falco, Joe Hrubash, Joe Attanasi, John Llano and
Dante Brando had 4 hits each. Carl Herman, Rich Conklin, and Geno
Raisley added 3 hits apiece. Gary Epstein in his debut behind the plate had
several put outs. NJGS moves on to the 60s B Division Finals. |

Services 11, Yogi’s Boys 10 |
In the first game of their best of three 60s B Division playoff
series championship, , NJGS fell behind 7-4 when Yogi's plated 6 runs in the
5th inning. In the bottom of the 7th inning the Gmen were trailing by four
and down to their last out. Then the magic happened as the Gmen bats came
alive scoring 5 runs--their 5th on a base hit by Geno Raisley to claim the
victory. Winning pitcher Carl Herman had 3 hits including a triple,
while John Llano went 4 for 4. Joe Attanasi, Dante Brando, James Masserelli,
and Gary Epstein added 2 hits each in the winning effort. |

Services 16, Yogi’s Boys 12 |
In the second game of their best of three playoff series
championship, NJGS plated all 16 of their runs and held a commanding lead
through the first 5 innings. However, in the bottom of the 5th inning
the Never Say Die Yogi's Boys scored 9 runs. Going to the bottom of the 7th
inning, down by 4 runs, Yogi's Boys’ first two batters reached base to start
another rally. However, their next batter hit a hard-line drive toward second
base which was caught by Gary Epstein and turned into a double play to
stop the rally and eventually give the Gmen the victory and the
championship. At the plate for the
Gmen, Joe Attanasi went 5 for 5. Steve Falco, Frank Verducci, John Llano
and winning pitcher Carl Herman (HR) added 3 hits each. James Massarelli and
Geno Raisley (several great plays at third) added 2 hits each. NJ
Governmental Services sweeps Yogi's Boys in a hard-fought playoff series to
win the 60s B Division trophy. |
