60’s Divisions
Games for Week Ending August 18, 2025
Swan Hotel 31,  Rocky’s Bar & Grill 20 (Swan Hotel wins series 2-0)
Swan Hotel closed out this best of three 60s A Semifinal series by defeating a determined Rocky's Bar & Grill 31-20 at Linden Memorial Park.  Swan jumped out to a 6-1 lead after one inning and held the lead throughout in what turned out to be a hitting slugfest by both teams. Hitting stars for the Swannies were Tom Ulichny (5 for 5, 2 RBIs), Nick Russo (5 for 5, 2B, 2 RBIs), Ricky Bone McMahon (3 for 3, HR, 7 RBIs), Mike Rzewuski (4 for 5), Brian Latham (3 for 4, 3 RBIs), and Danny Difedele (3 for 4, 2 RBIs). Doug Fischer recorded the win on the hill for Swan. Swan Hotel wins the series 2-0 and moves to the finals.  At the plate for Rocky's Angelo Puerari and  Rich Conklin were 4 for 4. Frank Verducci and Dave Reid had three hits each. Joe Hrubash, Carl Herman, Tomas Cruz, Keith McDede, James Massarelli and Gary Epstein added 2 hits each.
AJ Jersey 19,  Linwood Boys 18  (AJ Jersey wins series 2-0)
In the win for AJ Jersey, Willie Shumate led the way going 2/3 (2b, 4 RBIs), Jeff Hoffman 3/3, and Vance Barfield, Drew Koski, Phil Russo and Ted Campanello contributed with 2 hits each. AJ Jersey now moves onto the finals to face Swan Hotel.
Awnings Galore 18, Debellis Associates 3 (Awnings Galore wins series 2-0)
Awnings Galore  jumped out to a 7-0 lead after 3 innings, followed by a huge 6 run 4th inning, to secure the win in the second game of their playoff series and capture the sweep.  DeBellis did put up 3 in their 6th and threatened but it was not enough. For the Shadesters, Richie Traub led the charge with 3 hits, including a triple. Jerry Isolda added 3 hits of his own, including a double. Danny Mendoza, Rick Demsey, Richie Polonitza, Tom Beninato  and John Campanella contributed 2 singles apiece.

Swan Hotel 19,  AJ Jersey 18
In this opening game of the 60s A best of three championship series at Linden Memorial Park, the contest could not get any closer. Swan Hotel held on in the 7th inning to nip AJ Jersey at the wire 19-18.  Doug Fischer played his usual tough defense up the middle and pitched ahead to almost every batter to secure the win.  Hitting stars for the Swannies were Scott Mugele (3 for 3, 2 HRs, 5 RBIs), Tom Baldowski (3 for 3, HR, 2 RBIs), Mike Rzewuski (3 for 4, 2B), John Garced (3 for 4, 3 RBIs), and Bernie Maguire (3 for 4, 2 RBIs). Swan Hotel leads the series 1-0.
Kenilworth VFW 4, Awnings Galore 3.
In the opening game of the 2nd round of “B” playoffs, Kenilworth VFW defeated Awnings Galore by a score of 4-3.  In a game highlighted by good pitching and even better defense, Awnings grabbed a 3-0 lead going into the bottom of the 4th inning, only to see Kenilworth tie the game in the bottom half. The Vets took the lead for good in the bottom of the 5th inning on a sacrifice fly out by Juan Santana.  Kenilworth was led by Bob Glassman with 3 hits. Greg Thomas, Rory Caldwell and Dave Lloyd also added 2 hits apiece in the winning effort.  For Awnings Rich Traub was a homer shy of hitting the cycle with a single, double and triple while Mike Carnevale added two singles of his own

Games for Week Ending August 31, 2025
AJ Jersey 18, Swan Hotel 8
In the second game of this best of three 60s A Championship, AJ Jersey came out on top 16-8 to knot the series at 1-1.  After falling behind early 4-1, the Jersey Boys caught up and took control, scoring 11 over the last 3 innings for the win. Ted Campanello (3/3 2 RBI’s), Greg Hobson (3/3 2 RBI’s) and Larry Stewart (3/3 DBL 2 RBI’s) led the charge for AJ Jersey.  The vaunted Swan Hotel offense, which took the night off, finished with their lowest run total of the season. Tom Ulichny, Doug Fischer, Bernie Maguire Tom Baldowski and Nick Mennona had two hits each for the Swannies.
Kenilworth VFW 20, Awnings Galore 10
Kenilworth VFW moved on to the Final round of the 60s B Playoffs with a hard-fought victory over Awnings Galore by a score of 20-10 to sweep this best of three series. It was a 13-10 game into the 5th inning when Kenilworth VFW scored 5 runs and pulled away.  In this game, the Veterans were led by Mike Christoff who contributed 4 hits. Greg Thomas, Don Montefusco, Rocky Pencinger, Rory Caldwell, and David Ball also chipped in with 3 hits apiece.  Triples by Richie Traub, Tom Pasko and Danny Mendoza along with two doubles by Bruce Crawford and two singles by Ozzie Osborn wasn't enough to overcome Kenilworth VFW's late inning hitting spurt. 
Swan Hotel 23 , AJ Jersey 8
The sleeping giant awoke after a game 2 loss as Swan Hotel captured the rubber game of the best of three 60s A championship series defeating AJ Jersey at Linden Memorial Field by a convincing 23-8 score. Pitcher Doug Fischer took the hill for the Swannies and was dominant.  He held AJ Jersey hitless until the fourth inning. He also contributed with the bat with a 4 for 4 showing and 3 RBIs. Other leading hitters for Swan were Tom Ulichny (3 for 4, RBI), Scott Mugele (2 for 3, 3 RBIs), Ricky Bone Mcmahon (2 for 2, 3 RBIs), Mike Rzewuski (2 for 3, RBI), John Garced (2 for 3, RBI), and Steve Barba (2 for 2, 2 RBIs). The Swan defense was stifling as well. Danny Difedele made several outstanding plays at the third base hot corner. Tom Baldowski made a circus catch in Left Field to quell and AJ rally, and Marty Marks closed out the championship with a full speed, full stretch grab in Right Field. For AJ Jersey, Phil Russo was 3/3, Greg Hobson 2/3, Steve Bertone 2/3 and Osiris Hernandez 2/3. AJ Jersey’s improbable playoff run came to a close one game short of a championship as Swan Hotel took their fourth consecutive 60s A crown.  
Kenilworth VFW 30, Deegan Roofing 23 
In a back-and-forth battle through 5 innings, Kenilworth VFW outlasted Deegan Roofing by a score of 30-23 to take the first game of this best of three 60s B Championship. In what was not much of a pitching duel, Kenilworth VFW accumulated 36 hits to secure the victory.   Kenilworth was led by Bob Glassman, Ralph Genova, Rocky Pencinger, and Bill Daniel, all with 4 hits apiece. Glenn Sytko contributed 3 hits including a home run.  Bob D'Meo, Don Montefusco, and Jose Santana added 3 hits apiece for the Vets.  For the Roofers, Tim Walsh, Bruce Evans and Johnny Rachko had HRs for Deegan. John Rachko, Don Miller, Felix Valez, Walt Korzeb, Bruce Evans Rob Stratton, and Rick Reganthal all had three hits.
