The NJSSA 50's Tournament was held this past weekend in Old Bridge and Freehold with 21 teams participating. The teams were divided into 3 divisions: A with 10 teams, B with 6 teams and C with 5 teams.
In the A Division, Princeton
Van (Mercer) went 5-0 to repeat as State Champions. Player/Coach Dom 'Pug' Puglisi said that his team was undefeated
this season going 28-0 in the Mercer County 50's. With the 5 wins over the weekend, Princeton Van is now 28 -
0. The final game ended on an
unfortunate note when two Princeton Van players collided in the outfield
resulting in one player being carried off the field on a stretched and sent to
Centra State Medical Center. The player
was later released from the Hospital after undergoing a CT scan for possible
concussion and was treated for lacerations both in and around the ear. EPA (Ocean), coached by George Tarranova,
finished 2nd with Sweet Construction (Somerset) finishing 3rd.
