NJSSA 60's Tournament Results
The
NJSSA 60's Tournament was held this past weekend (September 6 & 7) at
Linden's Veterans Memorial Park. With
the threat of a severe storm looming, the Tournament was underway at 8:30am on
Saturday morning.
Due to teams having to play
with their League rosters, no substitutions and the competition of a Tournament
in Cape Cod, only 8 teams were entered this year. Some teams were not able to put a team on the field.
The “A” Division was
comprised of 5 teams, The Bucs (Ocean), Gatto's (Somerset), and 3
Union teams: Commerce Bank, Creative Industries and Kilkenny
House.
Fortunately, the heavy
downpour held off until late Saturday.
With a shortened schedule, Commerce Bank repeated as State
Champions. The Bucs finished
second (2nd) with Creative, Gatto's and Kilkenny trailing. Fred DiMartino was the ace pitcher for
manager Carlo Melia’s Commerce Bank team.
In the “C” Division,
3 teams were entered: LA Law (Union), Padres (Morris) and PNC
Bank (Mercer). With some shifting of
these games, the Tournament was completed before the rains came.
After losing their 1st
game, LA Law came back to sweep the field, winning their 1st
State Championship. Manager Ron Zimmer
and his team deserve a lot of credit in winning after struggling through a
difficult season in the UCSSL.
With the elimination of adding players for the State Tournament, it would be wise for teams to play with a roster of 15 or more players for future tournaments.
Congratulations to all of the players who participated.
