NJSSA 2010 60's TOURNAMENT

AUGUST 28 & 29, 2010

LINDEN's MEMORIAL PARK

 

The NJSSA 60's Tournament was held on August 28th and 29th at Linden's Veterans Memorial Park and Tremley Point Field.

 

While there were three (3) Championship teams, there were no losers.  All players were winners for participating in the Tournament.  The weather was great, the fields in excellent condition and some fine softball was played.

Tournament Synopsis:

 

A-DIVISION

George Terra-Nova's Buccaneer's (Ocean) defeated 2 time defending NJSSA 60's A-Division State Champion TLC (Union) in the best of 3 series 2 games to 1. The Bucs scored 13 runs in the last 3 innings of game 3, winning 15-4.  This is the Bucs 1st A-Division State Championship.  TLC is the only team to defeat the Buccaneers this entire season.

B-DIVISION

Walter Miller's Hawks (Ocean) swept The Patriots (Middlesex) in 2 straight. Trailing 5-1 going into the 5th inning of the 1st game, the Hawks broke open the game outscoring the Patriots 9-1 over the next 3 innings. This is the Hawks 1st State Championship.

C-DIVISION

Ron Zimmer’s Nicolina Pizza (Union), formerly LA Law, defended their NJSSA C Division crown in defeating Sports Medicine (Ocean) 2 games to 1 at Tremley Field. Trailing 4-2 after 1 inning of the 3rd game, Nicolina scored 11 unanswered runs, winning 13-4. Congratulations in repeating as State Champions.

NOTE: A barrier was broken when Sandy Smith became the 1st female player to participate in an NJSSA Tournament.  Sandy pitched and played 2nd base for the AERCO (Middlesex) team.
