NJSSA 60s Tournament Recap

The 60s State Tournament was a HUGE SUCCESS. Started at 9am and Finals concluded approximately at 6:30pm. Two Top Seeds were in the finals with Classics from Morris Winning the C Championship vs. American Legion Union 17-16 Final Score.

Creative I from Union won the A State Championship over Awnings Galore II at Tremley Field earlier in the day.

Well Gentlemen, after speaking to all of you yesterday and a lot of your Teammates at Linden, it seems that EVERYONE was happy with the State Tournament, Fields, Umpires, Rules, Rosters and Teams participating.

It was a beautiful day for the event and I don't know about you, but between playing 1 game and a half in Middlesex Saturdays 50s League and spending the rest of the day in Linden managing the tournament,  I would not be looking forward to going out this morning for a 2nd  day. This is just my opinion.  Most of Teams and managers liked the 1 day format especially due to traveling or the chance of a rainout which would have extended the tournament to another weekend.  Also, you can spend time with your families and rest on Sunday.

I personally think all the Teams and their players looked great in their uniforms and represented NJ Senior Softball with a tremendous effort in participating yesterday.  Thank you ALL for your Professionalism participating and interaction with all umpires as well as all fans watching the games.

I have already forwarded all of the Team Pictures to each manager; please forward to your teammates.  If anyone did not receive their Team Photo, please provide a cell phone number for me to forward it to.

I will be in touch with all of you to discuss pros/cons of Tournament and any modifications you think might deem helpful for future events.

In terms of the amount of Teams, I contacted EVERY 60s Senior League in NJ including each League President to spread the word in an attempt to increase participation please get the word out to other teams in the State and your Leagues.

Participation in 60s States past 4 years mostly Union and Morris Teams.

2016-----8 Teams

2015-----8 Teams

2014-----9 Teams

2013----12 Teams

This year in the 50s State Tournament, we had 10 Teams participate, the most in the past 5 years. I don't know the answer for participation, but I will work hard every year to get additional teams involved.

Please provide feedback regarding the Tournament to me personally via email so I can work together with the State Committee and respond to your ideas or concerns.

Once again thank you all for your participation and I look forward to seeing all of you on the field next year competing. Great Effort by All who participated!

I will be sending you all the Stats from the Tournament sometime later today.

Have a Great Weekend.
