Robert L. Rowland Sr.

 

 

Robert L. Rowland Sr., 78, of Westfield, N.J., formerly of Rahway, N.J., passed away on Feb. 10, 2011. A gathering will be held on Friday, Feb. 25, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Dooley Colonial Funeral Home, Westfield. The Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, Feb. 26, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Bartholomew Church, Scotch Plains, N.J. Interment will follow at St. Mary Cemetery, Rahway, N.J.

 

Mr. Rowland was a decorated Air Force veteran, serving from 1952 to 1956 with the Air Police; he was also assigned to the Presidential Honor Guard at the White House. During his 32-year career with the Union County Prosecutor's Office, Mr. Rowland was commander of the Major Crimes Unit and was involved in the Organized Crime Task Force, where he sat as president of the Tri-State Council. He retired in 1991 as captain of the Welfare Fraud Division. Mr. Rowland was an active member in New Jersey Senior Softball for over 30 years. He was predeceased by his siblings, Frederick J. Rowland Jr. and Adele Daly. He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Yolanda; son, Robert Jr. of Westfield, N.J.; daughter, Barbara Yunos of Piscataway, N.J.; son-in-law, Paul, and his grandchildren, Amy, Paul Jr. and Michael.

 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
